* Bettys Bites' One Hundredth POst! *

This post, is quite special. To reach 100 posts, in less than a year! My blogoversary is coming up soon too.. :)

So i had come to Kobe Jones about 3 years ago, Richard took my sister & I, to celebrate his payrise! We had heard good reviews about this place, ^ Richard and I were in our jap food craze hehe. I remember we had the 'volcano roll' which was divine!! VOLCANO ROLL: oven baked scallops layered on a crab salad and avocado roll with Kobe’s special cream sauce and a sesame seed and shallot sprinkle. We also had some other dishes which i can't remember.. but we all really enjoyed the food & always wanted to go back - but never got around to it... to many other places we wanted to try out as well.

So this time, me Ann & Nat had tickets to the PINK concert at the Sydney Entertainment centre, so pre-gig dinner was a must! Somewhere in the harbour, nice & close to the entertainment centre, & i had a $25 off voucher for Kobe Jones.

This time's experience though, was very disappointing..

AVOCADO ROLL $16
burdock root and asparagus roll finished with a layer
of avocado and a sprinkle of sesame seeds

The avocado roll, was just not special at all. But then again, it was purely vegetarian. For $16 though, it was quite costly.

EDAMAME $8
soya beans with rock salt served warm

The soy beans were very dissatisfying.. they didn't even bother to sprinkle the salt on evenly, as you can see, most of the salt went to one bean on top of the pile.. & they didn't seem very fresh either.

TENDERLOIN AMIYAKI $34
grilled and sliced, served with wasabi mash,
stir fried capsicum and amiyaki sauce

This dish was Nat's, and was apparently mediocre.. definitely not worth $34 from what i can see.

AGEDASHI TOFU $22
tempura silken tofu (no bonito shavings)

The tofu wasn't bad, although it just didn't taste fresh. The tofu was slightly rubbery. The crumbing on the outside was something different though, most agedashi tofu i've had, had a batter around it, this though was bread crumbs, it was a nice change (and i love anything with a crunch factor)

SEAFOOD PAPAYA MOTOYAKI $30
baked papaya filled with seafood and
capsicum mixed with motoyaki sauce

Ann chose this dish, which in my eyes.. did not look appealing at all. I also remember her mentioning, that it was over-creamy & cheesy. A bit sickening, if i remember correctly her saying.

We also had a cocktail each, and the bill came to be about $70-$75 each i think?? Over priced, and we weren't entirely full.. I feel bad for suggesting this place for dinner tonight!

It could be that, we just chose the wrong dishes.. but none of us were impressed with any of our meals, so i can only assume that their standards have been brought down some how..

It was also hard to flag down any service, there was a lot of hand waving that night.

The bill worked out to be $75 that night which is way over priced. And the service was appalling. I would never ever go there again

Yay Happy 100th post Betty! Here's to hundreds more :) I've heard such mixed reviews about Kobe Jones, I don't think I'm going to try it. The volcano roll does sound yummy, but that baked papaya sounds a bit odd?

Congrats on your 100th post Bets! :D

I went to Kobe Jones a few years ago for my bday! I don't remember much about the food because I was too excited about seeing everyone lol. But I remember thinking that it was quite good, although I've heard a lot of mixed reviews lately... must've gone downhill..

Congratulations Betty on your 100th post! Looking forward to reading more.... :)

Too bad the food wasn't that great at Kobe Jones. The last time I was there (which was a long time ago) I thought the food was quite good albeit fusion-y.
