2-8 Phillip Street
Parramatta NSW 2150 (corner of Marsden and Phillip)

Ph: (02) 8836 1400
Fax: (02) 9687 6455

We came here to shout Chris lunch for his birthday earlier this week, and to catch up with him since he had just recently come back from his trip to Africa (he spent 6 weeks over there, and didnt spent even one night in a hotel/motel- he lived out of a tent & was constantly on the move, lost 5 kilos!!)

We opted for local + beer + movies, so Parra was our best choice. We've been to Bavarian Bier cafe before [insert link here], but theres so many more things we wanted to try n the menu, and da boys wanted some good import beer. They both had half litre steins (times 2, yup they had a litre of beer at lunch time haha) & i chose the Ladies Bier with Lychee flavour. It was a sweet beer, i didnt really like it go got Babe to finish it off hehe.

I only had some nutri grain for breakfast (after two hours at the gym!!) so i was starving by the time we were ready to order. I ordered the crisp slamon with almond pesto, Rick ordered the tasting plate, Chris had the crispy pork with beetroot stuff (argh the website is down i cant check the real name etc) Food came out fairly quick, it was a quiet lunch actually not many people in the restaurant (it was around 12.30-1pm). THe boys were disappointed that our waitress didnt have half of her shirt unbuttoned haha.

My salmon steak was nice - crispy on the outside, fresh on the inside. I really liked the presentation!! The fish was on a bed of thick sliced potatoes & rocket, the almond pesto - i enjoyed the flavour (i've never had pesto before let alone almond pesto). I added myself to the plate a puddle each of english mustard, and whole seeded mustard (i love my flavourings!). There was also flaked almond bits, and bits of BACON sprinkled over everything (which i picked out and gave to Rick, i didnt want to complain, i'll just make sure next time i order anything that there can't be any meat in it at all

Rick's tasting plate had sausages, snitzel, pork belly, sauerkraut & beetroot stuff.

Chris had the Crispy pork belly, with potatoes & beetroot.

We were all pretty satisfied, & headed off to the movies afterwards to watch 'watchmen'. ANn was jealous that we all went to Bavarian Bier Cafe, Then Watchmen movie, so expect a third post for this restaurant some time soon =P I think i'll try one of the starters i saw crispy calamari if i wasn't going to choose the salmon it would have been the calamari :)

Tonight was the secret food bloggers getogether at Lowenbrau keller. Most people wanted to remain anonymous - so we shall cut straight to the chase!

Beer, beer & more beer! (Bier?)

Almost everyone ordered the house special which is the Pork Knuckle, including Rick. Betty ordered the only vegetarian dish on the menu which was some kind of crappy macaroni & cheese german adaptation, which came with a boring salad (with only little droplets of dressing).

The pork knuckle was served on a bed of creamy mashed potatoes & a warm splodge of sauerkraut, & a sprinkling of chopped parsley. It wasn't too fatty compared to the pork knuckle i've had at Cabramatta and the Oktoberfest. The crackling was really salty & crispy, but the mash balanced the extra saltiness from the crackling. The meat however was a little dry ... The sauerkraut was not that good here.. compared to the Bavarian Bier cafe (review on that is coming up!) i think it was over fermented because the texture of the cabbage resembled mushed babyfood.

Betty chose the vegetarian dish (the ONLY vegetarian dish) which was some kind of cheesy pasta served on a grill pan, with crunchy deep fried onions on top. She only managed to eat about a third of the serving, feeling sick from the lack of flavour, and overdose of cheese.

Everyone else had the following:

Pork belly with cabbage?

& a mixed tasting plate. (seriously, one guy finished this whole thing!)

Snitzel

Me & my non-alcoholic beer :D

Most of us wanted to remain anonymous hehe

All in all, this restaurant is only rewarding to those who eat meat. The crackling was excellent, i'd come back for a beer or two with friends (with Litre steins that is bwahaha!!

Tonight we were out hunting an Anaconda (whoops i meant at) for some rock climbing harnesses. They were pretty much out of stock so we gave up after ten minutes of looking around. Peter hadn't eaten dinner yet and neither had we, so Pete suggested the Bavarian Bier Cafe for a cheap and filling meal.

We had previously eaten at the Bavarian Bier Cafe in the city but didn't quite remember what we had, so we all agreed and headed off!

We started the night off by discussing the unique presentation of the waitresses bojangles (they unbutton their shirts pretty low). We were taken to our table and noticed a buttcrack on a neighbouring table so we got Pete to sneak a photo in.

(Cheers to Beer & Buttcracks)

Betty wasn't too hungry so she decided to have an entree sized flammenbrot which is like a very thin based pastry topped with mushrooms, herbs and a light cheese. Much to her surprise, it came out MAN SIZED. It was quite tasty in a sickening way, she was struggling to finish the Flammenbrot (note: this was an entree size).

I ordered a mixed sausage plate. This was a deep dish of sausages served on a bed of sauerkraut and mash, with deep fried crunchy onions on top with some kind of dark brown sauce. This was a very deceiving meal, it looks small but will fill you up like a bag of potatoes will (mmm french fries). The sausages were quite nice and there was an even proportion between meat and vegies. The sauerkraut was perfect, not mushy like a tin of baby food and not underfermented.

Pete had the meat tasting platter which again is a deceiving looking meal. It doesn't really look like much but will fill you up like a street with a burst water mains. Apparently they have Tuesday schnitzel deals, if you're able to finish a whole schnitzel, they'll throw in a free shot of schnapps. Back on topic now.
There was a sausage, pork belly and pork schnitzel served with sauteed red cabbage and deep fried crunchy onions.

This place beats Lowenbrau Keller hands down when it comes to the meat and vegetarian meals. We left the joint fully satisfied and wondering when we'd be coming back agan. Tuesday perhaps? ;P
