My cousin Joanne recently bought me some packet bonito flakes to try out - a mixture of sesame seeds, seaweed, bonito flakes & seasoning, it's a delightful crunchy addition to any plain old boring bowl of rice.
Actually it might not be bonito, i can't read Korean? If anybody can translate it for me that'd be great :O)
step 1 : rice
step 2 : sprinkling of packet mixture
step 6 : enjoy!
Another idea is to mix the bonito flakes through a small bowl of rice, and shape into onigiri like below ^_^

Cute Onigiri =)
ReplyDeleteCute idea! very simple but good! I'd have to replace with chicken though :)
ReplyDeleteNice photos! I bought a huge bag of bonito the other day - it looks similar to yours, but I think it's Japanese.
ReplyDeleteThose sprinklings are easy to make yourself too! They often contain just sesame seeds with lots of salt and some other spices. This is such a simple yet delicious meal!
ReplyDeleteDamn it, this post set off a really strong sushi craving! I haven't had sushi in weeks! :P
ReplyDeleteMy mum came back from Japan with tonnes of different packets of bonito with seaweed etc to sprinkle over rice. Its so delicious. Its great as a quick bite to eat when you just want something easy and satisfying. Love the mayo on top. Japanese mayo is delicious.
